‘All focused intensity and chaotic curls, long pauses and fast-talking, the composer, artist and poet noah max is a fizzing creative fuse’

Alexandra Coghlan, The Sunday Times

NEXT LIVE: The Alpinist, op.65 world premiere | aarhus sinfonietta, 12 march 2026

LAST BROADCAST: BBC RADIO 3 NEW MUSIC SHOW | 24 JANUARY 2026 (38min 27sec)

NOAH MAX is a writer of music and prose, and a maker of both still and moving images. He enjoys creating from scratch, filling the empty space. Taken together his body of work speaks of humanity’s relationship to Time among other insoluble mysteries.

He is the composer of over 60 works of opera, orchestral and chamber music which have been performed at London’s Wigmore Hall, New York’s Carnegie Hall and Vienna’s Musikverein. His opera A Child In Striped Pyjamas was lauded by critics as 'a Holocaust drama that's emotionally ambitious and vocally eloquent' (The Telegraph); he was awarded the Clements Prize in 2021 and his second album was released in 2025. His work is published by Birdsong and United Music Publishing; a selection of works are also self-published. Max's paintings have displayed at the National Portrait Gallery in London.
